Ok... What is cloaking?

Postby fable666 » Mon Jan 25, 2016 5:06 pm

Hi all,

So something new again for me again... What is cloaking and is it legal in Googles eyes? As it sounds a bit dodge to me....

Looking for a bike rack? Then come on over to the #1 Site For Bike Rack Reviews and have a look to see what you could have missed reading other review sites. What are you waiting for? what have you got to lose? Come take a look....

Here's the definition direct from Google: Link cloaking is a method used to make a long affiliate URL link into a shorter and prettier one—often to the detriment of a brand. The first URL clearly identifies the merchant, whereas the second is simply a shorter URL seen more frequently as more and more people use link shortening services.

The way I understand it, cloaking links is a way to avoid a search engine penalty. If that's the case it would seem fine with Google. If I am wrong about that hopefully someone will chime in :)
